My First “Personal” Blog Post

For my first broadcast class and an independent study at the Missouri School of Journalism, I worked in Jefferson City. I began my job as a statehouse reporter for Missouri Digital News (MDN). And each week I worked in the Capitol Building, I was required to blog about my time in the capital. I did that for class to fulfill requirements, but by the end of the semester I realized how valuable of a tool a blog can be for expressing yourself. Some people express their emotions on blogs, but this blog is for me to write out what I am thinking on issues that are important to me.

So now for my broadcast II class I am blogging not only for class, but for myself. I now understand that there isn’t a much better way to discuss the things I am passionate about than on a blog.

I don’t know how often this will be updated, but hopefully I can keep up with this, more than the requirement for class. I want this to go on as long as I can because it plays into an idea that my father stresses to me.

“The best investment you can make, is in yourself.”

If you want something; If you need something; than go get it yourself! (If possible) … If you know that you are going to work your hardest to succeed, why bother investing in someone or something else. And for me, this blog is an investment in myself.

If you can do the best possible job, trust yourself to do it. Because if it fails, or there is a problem, you have no one to blame but yourself. There are no excuses.

Thank you very much.
